After enrolling in the program, all Band of the West Sea Cadets may attend a two-week recruit training session. These training sessions are taught across the country during winter and summer breaks. The curriculum of this training is approved by the U.S. Navy and standardized at all training sites. Cadets receive 106 hours of instruction with a focus on the core values of honor, courage and commitment.
After successful graduation from recruit training, Sea Cadets may choose from a wide variety of advanced training opportunities that are nationally advertised by USNSCC headquarters. League Cadets who complete orientation can also participate in specifically tailored advanced training sessions.
Advanced training focuses on career fields and opportunities. It also serves to provide cadets with disciplined and interesting activities during the year.
Advanced training opportunities include special offerings, such as:
Basic or Underwater SCUBA. FAA Ground School, NCIS, Radio Communications, Cyber Warfare, STEM, Seamanship/Sailing, Law, Medicine, etc
The United States Naval Academy’s Summer Seminar
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy Introduction Mission (AIM)
Promotion within the Cadet Corps is based upon merit. Promising individuals, upon fulfilling certain successive qualifications and requirements, are given command positions and develop their leadership abilities with real experience.
