Weekly Music Instruction & Rehearsal

Instructor John Evans serves as Band Officer, and is a professional tuba player as well as respected music instructor in the SF Bay Area for the past 20 years.  He earned a BM-Performance (tuba) from Indiana University School of Music and an MA in Music from San Jose State University.  Instructor Evans challenges our cadets & encourages them to learn and perform a wide range and quality of music while making the experience fun and rewarding.

The BOTW music instruction team consists of guest conductors, music clinicians and music librarians.  Thanks to generous donations from the Captain Steven Gin Music Memorial Fund, the BOTW continues to build its music library representing a variety of styles of music including marches, military calls, American standards, big band, and jazz.

There are 2 bands in the BOTW.  The ALPHA ENSEMBLE serves as our performing band while the BRAVO ENSEMBLE is our training band.

"The students in BOTW are always much more focused and disciplined that my average student. Additionally, they are outstanding leaders who take initiative to ensure the success of other students (without me having to ask them to do so). It is clear that they share a passion for music and the hard work that it takes to be successful in our craft. "

-Troy Davis
Director of Bands, Aragon High School in San Mateo, CA

"I learned so much from training with the U.S. Pacific Fleet Band. Not only did I grow musically, but I learned how they organize to improve the overall sound and style. I have so many new ideas for my section back home. I'm excited to teach everyone else what I learned and use that knowledge to improve our band's appearance and sound"

-SA Maya Wyr, USNSCC BOTW cadet
